Bucks Fizz star Jay Aston, 57, confirmed she will have to mime at her gigs as she is battling mouth cancer.
The singer has recorded her vocals in preperation for surgery as she won’t be able to sing at her shows during recovery.
Revealing that for her operation she will need to have a part of her tongue removed, she has confirmed that it will be a little while before she can return to singing live on stage.

The star explained to Channel 5’s The Wright Stuff: “The first operation, I couldn’t literally talk until a week ago, and that was about five or six weeks ago.
“But this one’s going to be much more significant because they’re going to have to take a lot more of my tongue away and take a skin graft out of my leg to reconstruct my tongue.”
She continued: “My lymph nodes will be removed so it’s going to be quite a heavy operation, so my recovery time will be longer. But I am hoping it’s all going to go well. I’m upset obviously. I have a young daughter and my husband.”

“I have recorded some vocals so there will be some miming going on for a while.”
Confirming that she’s had support from her brandmates, she added: “It’s very difficult for them because we were four last year and our fourth member Boby left for personal reasons and so now potentially for a few gigs, it might just be Mike and Cheryl on their own.
“I can assure you I will be back as soon as I can, even though I might not be in full stamina. I have recorded some vocals so there will be some miming going on for a while.”
The star admitted that the cancer was flagged several years ago by her dentist, after having it checked out by a doctor it hadn’t worried her – but over time it has progressed.
WILL BE BACK: The star confirms that despite the setback, she will be back singing soon
The star revealed: “Last Autumn, I noticed it was changing and I had regular checks and they said, ‘you know you really need another biopsy’ which came back as being pre-cancerous.
“I had that removed but unfortunately what they removed had aleady turned to cancer, so now I’ve got to back in for a second operation.
“I think if they take more of my tongue away the chances of me sinigng, or even talking, will be very slim.”

REUNION: Despite going down to just three members, the group have continued their tour
Admitting that her daughter is her strength, she said: “I have a young daughter, I want to see her grow up, I want to see her get married and see her grandchildren.”
Though she shared that touring again with her band has helped her over the years, adding: “The thought of rejoining the band is now keeping me going. Being on stage with them is my happy place. Whatever you go through, it doesn’t matter when you’re on stage.”
TRIO: The foursome became a trio and performed as The Fizz
The star left the band in 1985 and reformed almost 20 years later, though their former bandmate Bobby is no longer in the group.
The trio have since performed under the name The Fizz and are working on an album deal.
