Almost 6K coats donated to families in need
Through Molina Healthcare’s nine-week campaign and culminating Winter Coat Giveaway on Dec. 2 in Detroit, more than 5,800 new coats were provided to local residents and families in need, as well as community organizations and schools.
An estimated 600 total volunteers, including those from Second Ebenezer Church, Magna International and other partners, worked together to make the Winter Coat Giveaway a success.

Woman graduates from only comedy film school in world
Harold Ramis Film School at The Second City in Chicago graduated its second-ever class on Saturday, Dec. 16. Andrea Rivera of Bloomfield Hills was one of the 31 graduates from the school, which is the only comedy-focused film school in the world.
The film school was established in 2016 to be a creative haven for comedic writers, directors and producers. Many of The Second City’s former pupils have come out to support the film school, including Steve Carell, Keegan-Michael Key, Eugene Levy, Tim Meadows, Andrea Martin, Catherine O’Hara, Bob Odenkirk and Martin Short – all of which currently sit on the film school’s advisory board.
Optimist Club accepts essays for scholarship
The Optimist Club of Farmington/Farmington Hills is encouraging area students to contemplate the phrase “Can Society Function Without Respect?” as part of the Optimist International Essay Contest for the 2017-2018 school year.
The Optimist Club will judge the local students’ essays and determine the top winners. The winning essays will be sent to the district level where college scholarships are available for top winners.

Henry Ford Hospital invites public to tour art gallery
Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital invites the community to tour its Michigan art collection, led by a docent from the Detroit Institute of Arts, at noon Tuesday, Jan. 9.
The Gallery Talk and Art Tour is free to attend and no registration is required.
