A British father has been killed and his stepson seriously injured after they were shot during a robbery in Argentina, according to local media.

The men, aged 50 and 28, were attacked around 11am on Saturday outside a luxury hotel in the capital Buenos Aires.

Both victims were taken to hospital after being injured in a struggle with robbers near the entrance to the Faena Art Hotel in the Puerto Madero district of the city.

The assailants had tried to steal the belongings of the tourists, who tried to resist before being shot. The Britons were then given first aid at the scene.

But tourists are warned to be alert to street crime, including armed robberies, and advised to hand over cash and valuables without resistance.

In a statement, the hotel said: "Faena Hotel Buenos Aires is deeply saddened by the incident which took place in the vicinity of the hotel.
